FEILL CHALUIM CHILLE
8th to 10th  June 2007
Isle of Iona and Mull

Bolstered by the success of this year’s festival Colmcille aim's to develop the Fèill further in broadening the range of events we offer by inviting more partnership participation to make such development feasible. It is our intention to hold a larger event along similar lines in Iona/Mull in June 2007. Discussions are already underway and the event will come under the banner of the Highland 2007 festivities. It is envisaged that the festival will include classes in language, traditional music, crafts, and culture, a junior shinty/hurling match, traditional boating events and an exhibition held in conjunction with the National Museums of Scotland and Trinity College Dublin, Keepers of the Book of Kells. The exhibition will include a facsimile copy of the Book and will see the return, for the duration of the Feile, of artefacts removed from Iona for safe keeping. To celebrate Colmcille’s 10th anniversary on the 9th June 2007 we plan to host a reception in Iona at which all the entries in our children’s photo competition will form the backdrop to an exhibition highlighting our achievements over the past year. The Feile aims to provide something for everyone – young and old alike. The main thrust of the festival is language. However, it is not exclusively for speakers of the language; non speakers will also gain from it. Our aim is to make Gàidhlig/Gaeilge language, culture and heritage accessible to as many people as possible, irrespective of age or nationality.
