Ìslay – Bally Castle
Ireland is closer to the island of Islay than most of mainland Scotland. Colmcille has worked with Ionad Chaluim Chille Ìle on the island to develop language courses. Arising out of contacts made at the language courses, there were further contacts between Islay and Pobal an Chaistil in Ballycastle, and the Irish-medium education sector in Northern Ireland.
Fosgladh Dhorsan is a programme to promote understanding of Gaelic-medium education in Ireland and Scotland. It was set up by Réamaí Mathers of Pobal an Chaistil. The programme and associated public meetings had a positive effect in Islay, and the intake to the Gaelic-medium nursery rose significantly.
