Colmcille has supported a number of links, partnerships and exchanges at primary and secondary school level. The most recent partnership to receive support from Colmcille allowed cchildren from Sgoil Shiaboist, a primary school on the Island of Lewis in the Western Isles, to develop links with a school Gaelscoil Mhichíl Cíosóg in Ennis in County Clare, Ireland.
Throughout the week long visit pupils from both schools took part in joint activities and cultural visits and built on work done by pupils learning something of each other’s languages and on ongoing contact between the pupils. The visit also cemented aims to set up joint Gaelic, history, geography and science projects between the two schools
Over a five year period Colmcille worked in partnership with Argyll & Bute Council in Scotland to organise joint programmes for Gaelic-medium primary schools and units. The first programme took place in an outdoor pursuits centre in Argyll, with pupils from Northern Ireland and Donegal joining pupils and teachers from the islands and mainland of Argyll.
In the second year pupils travelled from Argyll to meet Irish pupils at the outdoor pursuits centre in Gartán, birthplace of Colmcille, and at a number of venues in the Donegal Gaeltacht. Theatre in Education groups Meanbh-chuileag and Branar contributed to the programmes. Other years saw pupils and teachers from Donegal, Northern Ireland and Argyll gathering in Oban and Iona.
