Fèill Chaluim Chille

The 9th June is the feast day of St Colmcille. In 2007 Colmcille organised the first Fèill Chaluim Chille in Gleann Cholm Cille, in partnership with Oideas Gael. In 2008 the Fèill took place in Mull and Iona, with support from The Year of Scottish Homecoming.

In 2009, the festival took place in Derry, in partnership with the Bláthanna Arts Programme and Derry City Council. The Lewis Psalm Singers brought the Gaelic psalms to each of the festivals, and to the ancient abbey in Iona, where they sang with Cór Chúil Aodha. A talented group of musicians and language activists from the Isle of Man took part in all three festivals. Traditional boats were also part of the programme. Each of the events provided an opportunity for Scottish Irish and Gaelic speakers to meet, and for the local community to take part. In 2010 Oideas Gael organised Féile Cholmcille sa Ghleann, which included Scottish Gaelic classes and artists, as well as the traditional turas and walking tours.
