Acknowledgement of Colmcille funding
1. Guidelines
Colmcille
Colmcille is a partnership programme between Foras na Gaeilge, the body charged with the promotion of the Irish language on the Island of Ireland and Bòrd na Gàidhlig, the body charged with promoting Gaelic language and culture in Scotland and internationally. Colmcille supports projects which promote the shared linguistic and cultural heritage of Ireland and Scotland and achieves this through funding community-based projects, and organising educational, arts, cultural and promotional initiatives throughout Ireland and Scotland.
Promoting the Gaelic Language & Culture
The purpose of Colmcille is to bring language communities together and promote constructive interaction, and the partnership programme has an enabling role through facilitating a dynamic programme of project development, providing contacts and information and grant-aid. Colmcille’s work involves raising the mutual awareness of the two languages; facilitating the use and mutual understanding of both; building of relations with a wide range of stakeholders, broad-based audiences and local language communities. To fulfil its aims, Colmcille requires not only a programme of diverse projects, but also the participation of a wide range of communities and organisations.
As a publicly funded partnership it is important that the public has the opportunity to see what we do and how public money has been spent. It is a condition of grant to organisations receiving funding from Colmcille that they must acknowledge this support on every possible occasion, e.g. on leaflets, posters, press releases, advertisements, displays, websites and events programmes.
A project may not be considered complete, and payments could be delayed or withheld unless the correct acknowledgement has been made.
Help us promote and celebrate the shared Gaelic language and culture by using our logo.
The Logo
Colmcille’s logo is available in a variety of formats; by email, on CD and it can be downloaded from the Colmcille website. It is important that there is consistent use of the logo and that it is given reasonable prominence, in accordance with the size of the grant. The logo should appear in its entirety and in a vertical format. It should not be stretched or compressed.
2. Publicity
News Releases
Each news release should clearly state that the project has been funded by Colmcille. It should give the source, the amount and the date of the award in a prominent position in the main body of the text. The Colmcille Co-ordinator can supply a quote for inclusion.
Launch
Colmcille should be given an opportunity to be represented at the formal launch or opening ceremony of any funded project or event. Invitations to guests should make it clear that the project has been supported by Colmcille either by means of the logo or a reference in the text. Acknowledgement of Colmcille funding should be made in any speeches at the opening.
Published Material
Funding from Colmcille should be given prominence in any promotional literature associated with the project, either by means of the logo or, in some instances, a reference in the text. This includes leaflets, brochures, programmes, posters, notices, display and exhibition materials, websites and advertising.
Signs
The logo can be printed on a plague or engraved directly onto a suitable surface. The same principles of size and positioning apply to these situations as apply to publications.
Images
Wherever possible, photographs of projects and events should be sent to Colmcille during or on final completion of the project.
